Call for abstracts

Adventure Mind conference

Theme: “Accessible adventures”

The University of Central Lancashire, the Bendrigg Trust and Adventure Mind invites you to submit your abstracts for presentation about your research/practice around the theme of Accessible Adventure or a short proposal for a seminar/ practical workshop. Research and abstracts about practice-based submissions are welcome with content connecting any form of Adventure for positive mental health to accessibility, inclusion, belonging, health equity, outdoors, outdoor learning, outdoor education, nature connection, and social prescribing. Authors from a practice background with no research experience are welcome to submit using the practitioners guidelines below.

We encourage all authors to consider submitting. Presentation submissions are invited in the form of a 300-word summary using the guidance below. Proposals for seminar/practical workshops are limited to 150-words.

Referencing is not required in the abstract.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by the conference committee using Oxford Abstracts. All accepted abstracts will be published in our Book of Abstracts available with a DOI after the conference.

Abstracts/Brief proposals will be for either:

 Poster presentation: Presenters are asked to bring a physical poster to be displayed in the poster viewing sessions on the day.

 Verbal presentation: (10, 20 and 60 mins, PowerPoint/ Canva, Live on the day)

 Practical session: (1 hour session, likely to be delivered twice)

Research presentations (Poster/Verbal):

Literature reviews, case studies, MSc and PhD research and practice abstracts are welcome. Research abstracts suggested structure:

Practitioners presentations (Poster/Verbal):

Abstracts are also encouraged from practitioners. Authors who collaborate (e.g., a community/ voluntary/ faith/social enterprise/ private organization with health/ social care/ private practice/ academia/ research authors and outdoor practitioners) will be particularly welcome if including adventure for positive mental health.

Practical activity brief proposals

Brief proposals are invited for the 1 hour practical activity workshop. Please provide:

[1] A short biography (50 words) [2] A brief description of the movement activity (100 words)

Terms & Conditions

Authors will be available on the conference day for delegates to contact and answer questions. Authors will need to consent to their presentations being shared on the conference platform and to associated posts on social media.

Accepted authors are required to register for the conference by the end of August 2024. If an author does not book their conference ticket, their abstract will be assumed withdrawn.

Accepted presenters will receive additional information within a month of being accepted.
