My name is Lisa and I live on the coast of North Wales. I am an Ordnance Survey Champion, a qualified Mountain Leader, I volunteer with the Eryri National Park and arrange free wellbeing walks for women. I spend as much time as I can outdoors; hiking, wild swimming, stand up paddleboarding and getting away in my campervan. My Border Terrier Billy has spent his life hiking, swimming and paddleboarding with me – he’s the perfect companion both on adventures and in my camper.
What is your interest or experience of adventure for mental health or wellbeing?
I have always been massively aware of the impact of the outdoors on a persons mental health which I think grew from a seed sown by my parents. My childhood was spent outside with my brother and friends, with the only real rule to be home before it went dark! Fast forward and my own children were immersed in nature and raised to be explorers and adventurers. I have been in my role as an OS Ambassador for 6 years with the main focus being to share my days out and encourage as many people as possible to give something a try. I developed my free women only well-being walks to provide a safe place, with an encouraging and supportive community.
How can you help us spread the word about AdventureMind’s mission?
I have always used social media as a platform to share news both personally and for organisations. I recently received an award for my volunteering and it was commented on that as a result of my instagram posts they’d received a boost in volunteer numbers. As well as continuing to use social media to share AdventureMinds message, I would also talk about the work you do as I go about my daily life. I have a very friendly personality and enjoy talking about things I feel passionate about and committed to. I’d be more than happy to talk about my experiences if you needed representation at events
